As folhas têm 5-12cm de comprimento e têm formas diferentes dependendo do grao de maturação. Os frutos são drupas vermelhas, que amadurecem no final do Outono e são amargas.

Leaves are 5-12 cm long and have different forms depending on the maturation. Fruits are red drupes, maturing in late autumn, very bitter due to the ilicin content. They are rarely touched by birds until late winter - after frost they become softer and more palatable.
