Maioritariamente foram apanhados em rios e estuários de Portugal e alguns lotes correspondem a larvas criadas em cativeiro. Outras ordens presentes incluem Anguilliformes, Atheriniformes, Batrachoidiformes, Cyprinodontiformes, Gadiformes, Mugiliformes, Ophidiiformes, Pleuronectiformes, Salmoniformes, Scorpeaniformes, Tetraodontiformes.
